CLIMATE CONTROL
Our home is heated and cooled with a Daikin Heat Pump, featuring mini-split units in each bedroom and the downstairs recreation room. Most guests find the “Fan” function comfortable, but if you need additional features, refer to the link below for a quick operation guide:
OPERATION MANUAL (pages 12 - 15 are the main operation features you’ll use)
We also have a Danby Air Conditioner (portable) that we place in the living area when summer temperatures are warmer than normal. See the operating instructions here: OPERATION MANUAL
HOT TUB
We invite you to relax and enjoy the hot tub during your stay. Below are a couple of things to keep in mind and some steps to help you operate the hot tub and maintain the water quality during your stay.
Before each Use:
Remove the Cover:
Unsnap the straps securing the hot tub cover.
Flip the cover over the hot tub lift arm towards the deck.
Gently tilt the cover over the lift (it helps if one person is on each side).
Before Entering the Hot Tub:
Rinse off in the shower, especially if you've been hiking. Oils, sunscreen, dirt, and sweat can negatively impact water quality.
Spa water is kept over 100 degrees, so chemical sanitizers (like bromine and clarifier) are needed.
It's normal for hot tubs to have a slight chemical smell. Avoid adding too much.
After Use:
Add 1-2 tablespoons of Renew sanitizer before closing the cover.
Ensure the jets are off and air valves are closed.
Secure the cover.
Keep the blue floater in the hot tub (it holds the slow-release sanitizer).
CAFE LATTE, ANYONE?
Coffee & Keurig:
These machines are straightforward to use. We keep a supply of ground coffee and pods for you to use. Island Market has a great selection if you want to try different brands/flavors during your stay.
How to Use the Starbucks Barista Machine:
Watch a short 4 minute video to learn how to brew great espresso, lattes, or mochas during your stay at Orcas Island Getaway. We have a few flavors available for you to enjoy!
Quick Tips for Operation:
Turn On the Machine:
Press the left button to turn on the machine. The button turns red.
Wait about 60 seconds for the machine to warm up. It's ready when the green light on the right illuminates.
Frothing Milk:
Press the lower right button to prepare for frothing. The green light will turn off, then on again after a few seconds.
With the steam button pressed and the green light on, place the steaming wand just below the milk line in your pitcher and turn the knob on the left to begin steaming.
Pulling Shots:
Fill and tamp the portafilter. Insert it into the group head at a 45-degree angle to the left, then twist it to fit tightly.
Press the top right button to start pulling shots and press again to stop when done.
Helpful Hints & Reminders:
Do not lose the metal mesh filter in the portafilter; the machine won't operate without it.
Ensure there's water in the reservoir (fill up to the max line through the top).
Steam milk before pulling espresso shots.
Use freshly ground coffee for the best results; a grinder is in the pantry.
DISHWASHER OPERATION
After loading a dishwashing detergent pod, follow the below instructions.
NOTE: Cooking Grease and Food Debris
If you are cooking greasy foods in a pan, discard grease into a jar with lid under the sink (PLEASE don’t pour grease down the drain as it will cause blockage from solidifying in the drain line). Please also place food debris in the trash can and not in the sink / garbage disposal to prevent backup.
Hot Water:
The home uses an on-demand hot water tank. Run the kitchen sink until hot water flows, then start the dishwasher.
Cutlery Placement:
If you're looking for the silverware holder, check the third shelf at the very top of the dishwasher. This shelf is dedicated to cleaning cutlery and is often missed.
WASHER / DRYER OPERATION
Feel free to use the Washer/Dryer during your visit. The washing machine has a laundry detergent reservoir, so no need to add any to the drum. When you turn it on, there should be a lighted indicator that the detergent is already in there. Select your options and start. Please try to load laundry evenly and do not overfill.
The Dryer is pretty straightfoward for use.
ChargeLight - LED Flashlight + USB Battery Pack
ChargeLight - LED Flashlight + USB Battery Pack
Feel free to use the ChargeLight LED Flashlight + USB Battery Pack. It's perfect for recharging your mobile device on the go or for checking on something outside at night. Please remember to return it to the charging cradle after use.
PORTABLE BLUETOOTH SPEAKER
If you like music as much as we do, you'll enjoy having access to a portable speaker during your stay at Orcas Island Getaway @ West Sound. The Anker Soundcore Bluetooth Speaker is a great companion. Feel free to grab this quality speaker to enjoy during your stay. Recharge with the cable found attached and plugged into the ChargeLight Base station. Both are found on the kitchen counter.
RELAX WITH A CHAIR MASSAGE
FYI: The massage chair has a dark sheet covering it as some of the material has started to degrade & peel over time.
ELLIPTICAL MACHINE
Power On:
Turn on the red power switch located at the front/bottom of the chair.
Ceiling Height:
Be cautious of the lower ceiling height on the lower level, especially if you're tall or using the "incline" feature.
Power Off:
Please turn off the power supply using the red power switch at the front/bottom to ensure the display turns off.
